History
Building work commenced in 1894 and the house was completed in 1906.
The Queen Mother was a regular
visitor in the 1950's and the house is referred to in episode 8 of Series 1 of "The Crown" (Netflix).
The house was restored between 2018 and 2021.

Location
Dunnet Head is accessible by various routes:
By road
The House of the Northern Gate is positioned on the North Coast 500 driving route, possibly the best road trip in the world (according to Condé Nast).
By air
Inverness airport (with direct flights to London and Amsterdam) is 2.5 hrs away via a scenic coastal drive (or an alternate and even more dramatic inland route).
Wick airport (with direct flights to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen) is only 20 minutes away by car.
By rail
From Inverness you can take the Far North Line (4 hrs) through Flow Country to Thurso, which is 20 minutes from the house.
If you're travelling from the south of the UK, try the Caledonian Sleeper from London to Inverness.
